Every year, the Vodafone Nápad roku (Idea of the Year) competition sees around two hundred interesting projects. We collaborate with mentors who provide entrepreneurs with valuable insights and practical experience. One of our long-term mentors in Vodafone Nápad roku is Jakub, who, year after year, takes on the challenge of helping startup projects refine their final presentations, assess the relevance of their business models, set the right growth strategies, and manage financial planning while identifying new opportunities.
The competition is open to students as well as the general public—anyone with an interesting business idea, plans for company expansion, or a project in development. It doesn’t matter if the idea is not fully polished yet or if the project is still in its early preparation phase. We give everyone a fair chance, regardless of their previous experience.
Our goal is to help transform ideas—whether written on a napkin or already structured—into viable business ventures, and Jakub plays a key role in this. Over the long term, we want to build a strong community where startups connect with potential investors, advisors, and partners, helping turn promising ideas into real businesses.
In 2016, Mr. Jakub Zahrádka worked with us as a consultant for the Rakovník Hospital. At that time, the hospital was facing negative economic and personnel trends. Many of the issues stemmed from long-standing ingrained practices in management. His assessment of the situation was realistic—not only from a financial standpoint of view, but also in terms of staffing and overall company operations. The recommendations he provided were well-structured and actionable, and we have been gradually implementing them.
Privamed is a network of private healthcare facilities operating PRIVAMED Hospital in Pilsen, Mučov Hospital, Masaryk Hospital in Rakovník, as well as clinics in Pilsen, Louny, Brno, and other locations.
At the beginning of 2020, we approached Jakub with a request to prepare and facilitate strategic meetings for six working groups, focusing on setting priorities and goals for 2020–2021. His role was to distribute responsibilities among the members of each group and the executive team while emphasizing efficiency, communication, and coordination among the teams. Under Jakub’s guidance, each working group was able to clearly define its tasks and develop a communication system using an online tool.
Thanks to his professional moderation, each working group not only defined its priorities and goals but also created measurable and clearly focused action plans. The structured and logical setup of the working groups allowed them to function more efficiently, and this structured approach continues to benefit the organization today, helping the Council in its mission to provide valuable services to its members.
The Czech Council for Green Buildings brings together companies from various sectors of the economy. Their common goal is to support high-quality building design and construction that promotes sustainability and energy efficiency. The Czech Republic still has room for improvement in adopting sustainable building principles. Our vision is clear: buildings should not only serve their users but also have a positive impact throughout their entire lifecycle.

A Few Years Ago, You Found Yourself at a Crossroads and Brought in an External Consultant for Help. What Happened?

A few years ago, our company was expanding—another dealership was added, and we started building new branches. We needed protocols, approvals, and processes, and I realized I had too much on my plate. Two of us were managing the company, but with the increasing workload, we had to either bring someone in or offload some of our responsibilities.
At the same time, we were asked to help restructure another company that was in trouble due to poor sales and operational inefficiencies. The owner brought us in, and I started working with Martin. Together, we identified the key issues, set new procedures, and improved operations. Our work with this company taught us that we had to manage our own business in a similar manner—eliminate redundant processes and increase efficiency. We needed to focus on profitability rather than just expanding.
One of the biggest changes was hiring Martin as the company’s new CEO. It was a crucial decision, and the company needed fresh leadership. Thanks to his involvement, we restructured our management team and set the company on a more sustainable path. It was a period of change, but the company emerged stronger, leaner, and more efficient.
Today, Martin and I share the leadership of the company. Our main goal is to create a firm that operates with clearly defined rules, efficient financial management, and streamlined processes. At the same time, we are making space for the next generation of leaders. Martin now focuses on new projects while I handle the company’s traditional operations. This setup has given us stability and a clear division of responsibilities.
